Matcha is a high quality ground and powdered form of green tea. It is very healthy for you to consume and has been proven to be rich with antioxidants, boost metabolism, and lower cholesterol. Matcha is healthier than regular bagged green tea. It can taste bitter to some people, but I enjoy its earthy flavor. I am someone who loads up my coffee with cream and honey because I like it sweet, but for some reason I prefer my matcha to be completely natural. You can definitely tell that you are putting something good into your body.
Matcha is essential to the Japanese tea ceremony. It takes great discipline to perform this ritual since the movements and steps are very calculated and rich in tradition. A bond is to be made between the host and the guests as they silently appreciate their company, the tea, and the aesthetics of the room. It is a time to reflect and contemplate. If you have the opportunity to take part in a tea ceremony, I hope that you will take advantage of it. The host is usually dressed beautifully in a kimono and there are a limited amount of guests allowed to create a more intimate atmosphere.
More recently, matcha has been used to dye or slightly flavor other foods, such as soba noodles, ice cream, desserts, pastries, and alcoholic beverages. It gives these products a beautiful shade of green. I have even seen green tea frappuccinos at Starbucks.
While matcha is not everyone's cup of tea (pun intended), you should give it a try because the health benefits are wonderful!
